Keep the Party Going with Mario Party 8 for the Nintendo Wii

Once again, Nintendo has gone against the grain, and succeeded. While most of its competitors have decided to make and develop games targeted at older, more mature audiences, Nintendo has stayed away from the typical shooting and violence-laden games found on other systems, choosing instead to maintain its ties with the characters that most gamers grew up with.

Whether they will admit it or not, most gamers have a special place in their heart for some of Nintendo's most famous characters. Nintendo has used this nostalgic connection to its benefit, especially when developing titles for its most recent system, the Nintendo Wii.

Mario Party 8 for the Nintendo Wii is the latest incarnation of the title that first appeared in late 1998 for the now-replaced Nintendo 64. In fact, Mario Party 8 for the Nintendo Wii represents the twelfth version of this particular title.

Mario Party 8 for the Nintendo Wii plays essentially like digital version of a traditional board game. In the game, players take turns "rolling dice" and moving across a digital game board. Like in a traditional board game, certain squares that players land on have certain effects, either positive or negative, for the player or players involved. Although patterned after a traditional board game, the goal of Mario Party 8 for the Nintendo Wii is not to reach the "end" of the board but rather to collect as many stars as possible. At the end of the game, the player with the most stars is declared the winner.

Players can earn or lose stars in a variety of ways during the game. This is where the popular party aspect of the game really shines through, as the players involved begin to compete with each other and even work together as a team to try to earn as many stars as they can before the game ends. In Mario Party 8 for the Nintendo Wii, players can choose from a variety of playable characters, including classic Nintendo characters like Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Princess Peach, as well as Toad, Blooper and one of the Hammer Brothers. Overall, players can choose from fourteen different playable characters.

Nintendo characters such as Donkey Kong and Bowser make appearances throughout the game as well, though their characters are not playable. One of the features of the latest Mario Party game is that it also allows players to use characters known as Miis during certain sections of the game. A Mii is a character that can be created by players using certain features of the Nintendo Wii system.

Mario Party 8 features six different game boards, each unique in its theme and in the tasks and events that players must participate in. However, what makes Mario Party 8 for the Nintendo Wii so popular is what made the game popular from the very first version: the minigames. During the game, at least one minigame per turn may be played. Each minigame is unique, and it is here that players can win or lose stars. The minigames in Mario Party 8 exist in four different categories, from 4 player minigames where everyone competes against everyone, to 2-on-2 battles where players team up with each other to complete a challenge.

The Nintendo Wii's unique control system also adds for a more unique experience during gameplay and during some of the minigames, as in some of the games, players have to use the Wii remote's wireless capabilities in order to complete certain challenges and tasks.

Rock Band for XBOX 360 Really Rocks the House

Building on the success they experienced with the Guitar Hero series, the creative minds at Harmonix now bring music fans even closer to the world of rock with their latest creation, Rock Band or the XBOX 360.

With an interactive experience unlike any that the gaming industry has ever seen, about the only thing that Rock Band for the XBOX 360 does not do is allow players to print out tickets to their own concerts. Aside from that minor flaw, players can do everything from downloading complete famous and classic rock albums and creating their very own virtual Rock Band character, to showing off their skills with real-life drum solos during segments of certain songs and using the XBOX's online capabilities to put together their very own rock band with game players from around the world. Without actually signing with a record label, Rock Band for the XBOX 360 represents the closest thing to being a part of a real-life band.

The game itself is one of the most complete games of all time, not just in terms of music-based games, but games in general. Harmonix really spared no expense in developing Rock Band for the XBOX 360. Upon opening the box, players instantly have access to forty-five songs by some of music's most famous and popular artists, including Nirvana, Metallica, Beastie Boys, Radiohead, the Ramones and Black Sabbath just to name a few. Each track is either a re-mastered original or a cover of the original, but the list of songs is unprecedented nonetheless. XBOX also promises weekly downloads of new songs and titles, making Rock Band's playlist absolutely unbeatable.

Unlike its predecessor Guitar Hero, Rock Band for the XBOX 360 allows players to master four individual instruments, including guitar, bass, drums, and even vocals. With five unique game modes to go along with the four different instruments, Rock Band promises players endless opportunities to jam.

In tutorial mode, players can use their time to master the basic requirements of each instrument, while still being able to access the game's career feature. In practice mode, players can spend their time learning a specific part of a song before performing it for the crowd. In quickplay mode, players can select any unlocked song and do what they love best – play. The solo tour mode allows players to build their career as a music star on their own, while the band world tour mode gives players the chance experience life as a world-touring rock star.

Perhaps the most unique feature of Rock Band for the XBOX 360 is the use that the game makes of the system's online capabilities. Rock Band actually allows players to join forces with other players, regardless of where they are in the world, to create their very own rock band. With this feature, players come to count on the individual talents and abilities of each member of the band in order for the entire group to succeed.

It looks like it's time to buy those concert tickets, the rock band is coming to town!!!

Wii Systems

The geniuses at Nintendo have done it again. While the developers at Sony and Microsoft were busy upgrading and making changes to their current systems, the people at Nintendo were developing something truly innovative and revolutionary. Much like they did in the early 80’s, the developers at Nintendo have once again turned the gaming world up-side down with the new Nintendo Wii.

About the only thing that the PS3 and the XBOX 360 have over the Wii systems is the fact that they boast higher resolutions. True to their overall goal though, developers at Nintendo successfully created a game system that is designed to be played not watched. While the graphics do hold their own with the other systems, the point to owning a Nintendo Wii is to play it.

Instead of simply adding or improving features of older systems like other companies often do, Nintendo has given fans a completely new system, with numerous new features and innovations.

Perhaps the most revolutionary aspect of Nintendo’s Wii systems is their price. Unlike the systems offered by Nintendo’s competitors, the Wii is a much more affordable system at under $250. A large game library along with some of the industry’s most recognizable characters help to put the Wii at the top of the market when it comes to purchasing new titles for the system.

In addition to affordable cost of the system and the variety of titles to choose from, Wii systems also feature a multitude of features and innovations that work to make the system more gamer-friendly and amazingly interactive. In fact, most owners would agree that Nintendo’s Wii systems give users a game-playing experience unlike any they have ever had with other systems.

Part of what makes the Wii more interactive than any other system available is the fact that is uses wireless controllers and sensors for its games. With the built-in wireless capabilities, and controllers that are meant to be held in both hands, users can take control of their game characters like never before. Using the Wii Remote in combination with the Wii Nunchuk, players can simultaneously move a character with one hand, and use the character’s weapons with the other.

Sports games on the Wii are also played in a more interactive way. Gone are the days of pressing a button to make a digital baseball player swing a bat or throw a baseball. With the Wii’s wireless features, players can actually swing the Wii Remote to cause their on-screen character to swing a bat. Boxing games on the Wii also allow players to actually punch while the play the game by simply holding both controllers and literally punching in the direction of the remote sensor bar.

In addition to the interactive nature of its Wii systems, Nintendo has also made it possible for users to play their old Nintendo Gamecube titles on the Wii, as well as giving users the opportunity to download games from previous Nintendo systems through the Wii Shop Channel.

With revolutionary new controllers, downloadable content, technical specs that compete with any other game system, the largest game catalog in the gaming industry, an affordable price, the ability to access and download content, even its very own web browser, and some of the industry's most recognizable characters, Nintendo Wii systems do more than hold their own with the competition, in fact, they blow the competition clear out of the water.

The Dance, Dance Revolution DDR Mat for the Wii – An Essential Component

One of the most popular arcade games ever has made its way to today's hottest gaming system. Dance Dance Revolution is now available for the very popular Nintendo Wii system. Much like the original arcade version, the home version of DDR flashes a series of directional arrows on-screen, while a particular song is played. Individual players are then required to step on a specific directional arrow on the pad that matches with the arrow on the screen. The more exact a player is in matching the arrows on-screen with the movement of his or her feet, the more points the player is awarded.

The home version of DDR game for Nintendo comes complete with its own Dance, Dance Revolution DDR mat for the Wii. The Dance, Dance Revolution DDR mat for the Wii is more portable, but it works in the same fashion as the footpad that is part of the arcade version of the DDR game.

Individuals who wish to add to the competition while playing Dance, Dance Revolution can opt to purchase an extra Dance, Dance Revolution DDR mat for the Wii. With the additional mat, players can then compete and dance-off against each other instead of having to wait their turn to dance.

The Wii DDR dance mat is very sturdy and is designed to take on hours of punishment from both children and adults. The mat is padded enough to not result in pain or injury to the feet, yet thin enough to be folded up and put away when the dancing is done. Additionally, the Wii DDR dance mat also functions as a traditional controller that allows players to pause and start the game, as well as giving them the option of selecting from the various options that are part of the game.

While for the most part, the Dance, Dance Revolution DDR mat for the Wii is like the Nintendo Wii itself, designed to be used and played, manufacturers do make mention of several safety issues that players should take into account when participating. Since the mat is made of plastic, manufacturers recommend that players remove their shoes when jumping on the mat, as certain types of shoes can damage and tear the mat. In addition, manufacturers of the Wii pad also suggest that players remove their socks when using the mat, since players can easily slip off of the mat if they are not being careful.

The creative minds at Nintendo have truly dedicated themselves to making the gaming industry more playable and more interactive. With titles like Dance, Dance Revolution on the list of Wii games, as well as a variety of controllers and accessories to make the system more fun for the entire family, players are certain to find games and accessories that easily fit their gaming needs. So before you set off to challenge your friends in a DDR dance-off, make sure you bring along the Dance, Dance Revolution DDR mat for the Wii, and let your feet do the rest.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Xbox 360

The fact that this is the fourth edition of the Call of Duty series should say something about the quality of the product that the developers at Infinity Ward are putting out on the market. While most shooters rarely make it to a sequel, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for XBOX 360 proves that there is always room for improvement. When it comes to an enthralling storyline, unbeatable graphics and visuals, and intense game play, it is harder to find a game with more to offer that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the XBOX 360.

The mission of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is very simple: stop a rogue government from acquiring nuclear weapons. The team at Infinity Ward has developed a game that takes players around the world, as both a U.S. and a British soldier, with access to an arsenal of weapons and technology the likes of which have never been seen in a game of this kind. Sniper rifles, mines, night vision goggles and machine guns are just a few of the toys available to help players of the game accomplish their mission. Overall, more than seventy weapons and accessories are available to players of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the XBOX 360.

Very few games can compete with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in terms of completeness and involvement. During game play, players can find themselves riding on an attack helicopter, destroying enemy sites with the force of military jets, and even taking on enemies from airborne gunship.

Besides the wide range of weapons and accessories as well as the uneatable and completely involved game play, the Call of Duty series has always been known for its amazing graphics and sounds. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare gets players as close to the action as they can without actually being shot at. Using the latest graphic and sound technology, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is nothing short of a cinematic experience. The depth of field, shadow effects, and textures, together with realistic battle sounds of the highest quality will have players feeling like the enemies bullets are whizzing past their heads.

Like previous Call of Duty games, the fourth version also features multi-player action that is in a word: unbeatable. Through the online missions, players can customize their individual soldier's gear and weapons to fit best with their individual style and preferences. Additionally, players can also earn experience points that will allow them to unlock game secrets and content. The game's online features also include leaderboards designed to keep track of individual stats and rankings.
