Pixar's Cars
Cars is one of Pixar's newest animated movies. The animation and graphics are phenomenal, especially on the newer high definition TV's. Like many of Pixar's films (Bug's Life, The Incredibles), the movie has a very grown up plot line, wrapped in kid friendly graphics and animations.
Cars is the story of Lightning McQueen, a hot-shot rookie race car whose biggest dream is to win the Piston Cup. Like any other young hot shot, Lightning focuses more on his ego than his friendships,. This changes when, one day, on the way to the big race, he gets accidentally lost out in Radiator Springs, off of historic Route 66. Events unfold and he's ultimately cited for breaking one of the town's laws. As punishment, Lightning must focus his turbo powered engine and use it to repave the town's main road. This, of course, isn't as easy it seems.
Over the few days of his paving project, Lightning makes some new friends, and is moved to confront some of his own prejudices and limited thinking. He learns the value and meaning of friendship and true connection as the movie progresses.
I won't spoil the end, but it's just as good as you'd expect from a rookie race car who learns that power and speed isn't nearly as meaningful as friendship and love.
This movie is one of my favorites; I've seen it five times already- and would watch it over and over again. In fact, I've asked for it as one of my presents for Christmas this year.
If you're looking for an entertaining story that also teaches good values, Cars is one movie that fits the bill. Combined with awesome animation and the playful Disney-Pixar wit, you can't miss with this movie that will entertain adults and children alike.
